his own intelligence is to be taken as proof of it.

Self-trumpeter's fallacy
— Exposition
Endowments desirable
in a public man,
(relative) probity
intelligence, and
active talent. This
fallacy consists in
a man claiming
the force of authority
for his opinion,
on the ground of
an extra proportion
of the aggregate mass
of these endowments
for his possessing
which his own self-
testimony is to
be received as proof

Probity, intelligence intellectual aptitude, active talent — under one or other
of these heads may be placed ranked whatsoever endowments
on an occasion such as the present that in question a public man
need wish to be thought possessed of.

That which in the utterance of this fallacy the species
of deceiver or intended deceiver here in question does
is to stand up, and, in proof of his being endowed in pos
with and always having been possessed of these endowments
one or more of them, adduce and deliver his own
testimony.
