in which the art
of defence against
Ability and Reason
Virtue and Wisdom —
is brought to its highest
degree of perfection —
when fallacies
such as these found
ready utterance and general
acceptance.
On the part of the
utterers the maximum
of effrontery
or depravity, on
the part of acceptors,
do of imbecillity.

When once things are come to this have been brought to such a pass, [the art
of warring making war carrying on of war as carried on against Reason and General Utility has
arrive] as that man should be found on the one
hand to give utterance to such arguments one argument of this complexion
and on the other hand to give acceptance to it,
