Even before the purchase of the entire Salisbury Estate
had been brought on the carpet by Mr Long, Mr
Boadle the Land Steward if and when as yet
the possession of the of Tothill Fields he was the only object,
directly and principally in view, Mr the Land
Steward, Mr Boadle, himself a liberal man, after
a proper suitable elogium, on the liberality and
public spirit of the noble inhabitant of Grosvenor
(otherwise called Belgrave) House, had bespoken a
visit of me, to receive the consent and expanded
arms of Ld Belgrave; and your Lordship may
imagine his the surprise and mortification experienced
by the author of the invitation, as will as by the person who had
, embraced it, when upon our meeting on the occasion
of that visit, it was discovered by Mr Boadle found that he had been reckoning
without his Host.

When the purchase of the Salisbury Estate
had been determined upon compleat effected, as above, there came the inconvenienced above described, as the inevitable result to
the habitation of Lord Belgrave, useless in every event
than that of his Lordship's being pleased to allow

the then unimagined
and to me altogether inconceivable
event,
of the land's being
purchased and not
used. This brought on a correspondence,
commenced on my part, requesting his
Lordship's co-operation for that purpose.. Now came
the application of his their Lordships' professional advisors,
for the accomodation — the communication
from which the estate was to derive a that long
asked for and otherwise hopeless benefit: thereupon
came their request proposition, for the requisite concurrence on my part — a proposition followed by my consent, given in the
most cordial and explicit terms, as soon as the very instant it was asked.
