Conclusion
Certainly neither can my faculties be so serviceable,
nor will my remaining years be so many, as they
might have been, had it not been for Mr Pitt,
Mr Rose, and Mr Long: not to mention so many
as yet unnamed noble and illustrious persons, whom for the present in the present
at least I will must be content to have on
occasion I will not attempt to drag forth out of
that shadow of the darkness walk if which in their own judgment is
the only one adapted to their designs and the
means they have pursued employed for the accomplishment:
but the <add>comparable losses have have sustained</add> which may have been destroyed will
& not be in this respect, will not I hope
be regarded as a sufficient for subjecting me
purposely to any further losses, if enough should be found
remaining to qualify me for this humble function.

Of the works of any past years, of any works
of of which such as they are the public is already
in possession. I will on the present occasion, say
nothing, were it only for this reason, that they
are past. Though in every instance of a
practical tendency, the character of them as given
by others, and in point, is that of being
scarce little known — unanswered — inanswerable —
unapplied unheeded, and consequently of no use.
