natural connection between the exercise of the
occupation and the growth of delinquency
in some special shape or other may equally be traced
as in the cases above exemplified, howsoever
the sha analogy may be diversified in respect
of the shape of the delinquency or the nature
of the connection between the delinquency and
the occupation from which it is liable apt to derive
instigation or assistance.

In all these cases or at least in most of them the great body of
the individuals embarked engaged in the several
occupations may be, and in general would
(it is hoped) be found to be, pure and exempt
from the epidemical taint and upon a par
in point of probity with the general run
of other occupations their fellow subjects. But this consideration, so far
from affording a conclusive objection against
the subjecting the body of the occupation to
this controul, affords an additional reason
in favour of the measure in support of it. In all these cases
the cases the dishonest on is <add>are</add> the rival, and natural adversary
of the honest and upright trades: by
descending to practices which his probity forbi
prevents him from descending to, they rob deprive him
of a portion of his fair share of the profit:
of the which by bringing a bad name upon
the occupation itself which he and they pursue is common to him and them
in common they involve his character in the odium
