I.B. April 26t 1776.
un objet to vent his spleen upon: [ & le hazard fit qu'il
[vous rencontrait.] se prit a vous.] Il en trouve un; & le hazard
fit que cet objet, c'etait vous.
Saturday
Poore est en Ville - je l'ai rencontre hier: he
told me he came to town the day before.
Q.S.P. is mad. He is going to not only to take a Country-
House, of which my concern is perhaps rather the pretext
than the cause but also to make an addition
to that in town. The front of the old part is going to
be pulled down for the sake of making an addition of a
few feet by means of a Bow: And this at a time when
Madam charges and he owns that he has not got a
coat to his back fit to be seen, and when his miserable
guests are obliged to go away with half a dinner
for want of greens to their salt Beef.
This I had from the Alderman yesterday with whom
I spent the day & part of the beginning of this. His
wife was taken fetched away by her Father into the country:
and he and I sang old - and burnt the Bellno
till past midnight.
Monday
I shall send you a Copy of the Fragment, together
with your Glasses if they are done, by Thursday's
Coach - I sp till Thursday in order to hear if you
want any thing else, that I may send it by the same conveyance.
Mr D. tells me you are about an improvement to your
Boat. I should be glad to hear somthing about it.
