Hond Sir
At this present time I am at Sea I know not how far but
I hope not above 15 miles from Helvoetsluys. When I send you
this I shall be able to tell you of my arrival there.
I hope, Sir, you will not only excuse but take in good part my
having left England without informing you either when or by what
means I intended to go. I thought it much better and indeed my
duty to save you if possible that fruitless anxiety which I think
you could not but have had while you were imagining that I was
exposed to the dangers of the sea which we always magnify by our
apprehensions. I sailed from the Tower on Tuesday last in a dutch fishing Vessel bound for Hellvoetsluys at about
1 o'Clock in the afternoon: in hopes of reaching the end of my
Voyage sometime in Thursday: but the contrary winds and the slothfulness
of our crew have prevented me getting there at this time.
A large Trunk containing the greatest part of my cloaths some books &c
I left packed up to be sent by a Hamburgh vessel as well to save trouble and
