Dear Sir

As you seemed uncertain, in Your Letter from Archangel,
about your going by the way of Cassan, I would
not join the Letter Mr. Carew gave me for
you (: in the pickle you received it:) to the Letter
I directed to you to Cassan. If you have not
received this Letter, let me here repeat to You,
that the crossing over the desert, between the
rivers Urall & Volgka, will be a pretty tedious
journey for you, unless you will take Botany
for Your amusement & Love a Solitude like the
barren desert of Arabia. Besides, if you get there
in Summer, I would not advise you to go along
the Seacoast from Gurjef to Asstrachan where you
will be often without any fresh water to drink,:
but go by the road the Caravans use from
Asstrachan to Jaizkoi Ghorodok & vice versa & even then
provide good Guides from amongst the Cossacks
of Jaizkoi or Uralsk or Ghorodok, which travelled that
way before & know the wells & watering places.
A good convoy will also be necessary. In Spring
you may take either way, & then certainly that,
which coasts the Caspian would be preferable,
chiefly by visiting the Sturgeon fisheries there.
