to him, notwithstanding the indelible stain which such
a refusal must tend to fix on my Character; It would be
unpardonable ingratitude not to acknowledge the obligations I
must feel myself under for the proof you at length gave of
your affection for me in discharging my dept entirely.
The sum no doubt must have appeared very great; but as the paying
