Copy of a Letter to Sir James Harris K.B.
Sir
As it has made no small part of my happiness,
that my Son in Russia has been honoured with your
friendship; and as he is now in a situation, and
circumstances that have long been the object of his
wishes, and which indeed prompted him, at first,
to quit, for a while, his own Country, professedly
for the means of being the more serviceable to it
in a way the best adapted to his genius, I
flatter myself, I shall find my excuse for
giving you this trouble, in your inclination to
serve him.
If a Perusal of the inclosed Letters from him to
to his Brother and me will not be too great a
trespass upon your time, you will find he is at
present engaged, in compliance with Prince
Potemkin's recommendation, in a Plan of
constructing a Row-Yatcht for his use but with
a view of making a Present of it to the Empress,
for her personal accomodation when She puts
in execution her intended Progress next Summer
to Cherson and the Crimea.
