your reasoning on these misconstructions, but you seem to
suppose me an enemy to your plan & wishing to obstruct
the progress of it - I assure you I know not what business
I have had to meddle in it at all except as a promoter
of it - I admir'd its ingenuity & thought it would be
beneficial to the public in that point of view I wish'd
it and still wish it success, and with respect to the
ground on which the building is to be erected I have
no other wish than that the properest spot may be
fixed upon, & it seemeds to me that the first official
step to be taken by the Treasury was is the appointment
of the Surveyors I proposed L as the Commissioners are
directed by the Act

I am sorry you have met with
disappointment - but I shall be more so if the effect
of that disappointment is either to make you relinquish
the prosecution of your plan, or to proceed in it with
a temper want of temper which cannot fail to
obstruct its success

I am Sir
Yr. obedt. Servt.
Charles Long
Treasy Chambers
Sept. 25
