Horsham Jail Star Feb. 7. 1792.

glers about that place.

On Friday night last, the convicts, and some
other prisoners in Horsham gaol, formed a plan for
their escape, which was fortunately discovered and
prevented by a person who is also confined in the
same prison. They wrenched the poker from the
grate, to which it was chained, with a design to use
it against the turnkeys when they came on their
nightly round. Their intention was then to bind
(if not kill) and strip them. Two of the party were
next to put on the turnkeys cloaths, pass thus disguised
with their keys and lanthorn through the
gaoler's house, and open the gates for their accomplices.

Since the decision on the sale of Starosties, the
only subject of importance before the Polish Diet,
has been an account of the Finances. The annual
receipt is 38,048,467 florins, of which Poland pays
28,232,101, and Lithuania 9,836,565. Counts
POTOCKI and RZEWUSKI are still in Moldavia,
where they are suspected of plotting against the new
Constitution, in the hope of being still aided by
Foreign Powers.
