from hero, and of course
from biographer

The sequel is not less instructive. When by these same men
by which whom the so much lauded good had been done to the country continued gave extension
their views followed, and from the emancipation of the Irish from
the British Parliament proceeded to the applied their endeavours to the emancipating
the people from the Yoke of a set of sham representatives
these by themselves and not by those whom they pretended to represent,
these endeavours became of course in the eyes of this Lord
wild and visionary mischievous and accordingly in those of his biographer and so forth, ☞ Quere as to the censure in this

On some unmentioned day in October or Novr 1783 the Consent under
the name of "The Convention", the Delegates form these Volunteers "met
"in Dublin, at the Royal Exchange, when, as preparatory to every
"thing else they chose Lord Charlemont their President. They Hardy 263
"presented says Lord Charlemont himself " a numerous, and
"truly respectable body of gentlemen. For though some of a lower
"class had been delegated, by far the majority were men of rank
"and fortune, and many of them Members of Parliament, Lords
"and Commoners....

The biographer then proceeds to shewstate/give us to understand how his hero
accepted the command and to the last continued at the head of the Convention
for the purpose of defeating their design which accordingly
was defeated.

In justification of this purpose the biographer give us to
understand that the plans of reform produced were numerous, and
that though "some" were "ingenious some which bespoke are exercised
and rational mind, yet in general "they were either" inefficient
or "execrable" not which except that a few rhetorical exaggeration
in inverted commas is all he says of them. Well then those that were " bad, would they
have obtained the preference over such as were good." The affirmative
is what he must assume and without proof, or they contribute
nothing to the justification his purpose.
