'Twas there he watered freedom's tree
When the first bud of hope uncurl'd
And now – that tree of liberty
O'ershadows all the western world.
Glorious and grand it towers sublime
O'er Summer's lightness winter's snows
And every nation – taught by time
Shall in its verdant shade repose.
A single blow the slave may free the slave
A single hand the despot smite:
But who can vanquish liberty?
Who veil the Sun's eternal light?
The cause of man – the cause of man
From storms from sunshine gathers strength
And banned a moment, – it shall ban
Tyrants & tyranny at length
