Stratus
When o'er the silent bosom of the sea
The cold mist hangs like a stretched canopy;
And the moon mingling there her shadowy beams
A spirit fashioning other spirits seems,
Tis then, O nature! then our bosoms feel
And vibrate with joy's rapture-giving thrill!
Then gathering as it scales mounting up the shadowed darkened mountains side
And spreading still its gloomy curtain wide
It shades that mountains midway height, & there
It sinks in water-drops, or soars in air.
