Panna IV
John Kochanowski
Vol I p 128

For whom have I plucked those flowers
For whom prepared this flower-crown!
Not for any else but for thee
Who art dear to my heart.

Place upon thy graceful fine head
This my blooming work
Have myself upon thy heart
And think I do also the same with thee

There was not a single moment
In which you were absent from my thought
The sleep itself does not hinder me to
To sleep – and think as if awake.

I have a hope of thee
That thou doest also value me
And wilt not despise my feeling
But reward it with thy own

This only I cannot conceal
What my fills my heart with fear
All have here a piercing eye
And what beautiful thy know well

I beseech you by God, the Sisters – (maidens)
May I not suffer for in the any wrong
That none no one may injure me
In what I am so apprehensive of so much fear

Do me any other injury
And I am ready to consent
But who will injure me in love
He will do me eternal wrong to my Soul.
