might be thought about to suffer was the very means and only
means whereby the restraint and prevention in question were by
such Juryman expected to be produced, as we may conclude, must
have been the case, then in this case also, it was in such Juryman
an Act of Punishment.
3. If any Juryman did it in the view of making Mr. Wllkes
amends for the pain he had suffer'd by the supposed injury in
question, in such Juryman it was an Act of Compensation.
4. If any Juryman thinking himself in danger of suffering
in the like or any other manner from Lord Halifax and persons
liable to act as he did, did it with the view of preserving
himself from such suffering, to wit by means of the restraint
which the fear of similar punishment might be expected to
impose on Lord Halifax and such other persons, in such Juryman
(besides being an Act of restraint, prevention and punishment)
it was an Act of Self-preservation.
It seems not improbable but that all or most of the Jurymen
might have had all or most of these views: if so the Act in
question
