is warm and general.  Blood, as the phrase is,<lb/>
will have Blood.  Unless a Murderer be punished<lb/>
with Death, the multitude of speculators<lb/>
will with difficulty bring themselves to think that<lb/>
Justice is done <add>the rules of Justice are pursued</add>.</p>
<p>There are two principles on which this attachment<lb/>
seems to be founded in the breasts of popular<lb/>
speculators:  each <add>both</add> of them connected in some way or<lb/>
other with the circumstances of analogy.  One is the<lb/>
influence of that circumstance upon the mind of<lb/>
the speculator;  it leading him to pass readily from the<lb/>
idea of the <del>punishment</del> crime <add>offence</add> to that of the punishment,<lb/>
and thence <del>concluding</del> <add>to conclude</add> the connection to be natural,<lb/>
