reward.  As to this matter take the following <unclear>route</unclear>.</p>
<p>Rule informing the connection between the nature<lb/>
of the service <add>or say the operation</add> by the performance of which the duty attached<lb/>
to the official situation in question is performed it will be<lb/>
<add>among</add> the cases of the Legislator to avoid every mode of connection<lb/>
by which the <add>inducement or say the</add> motive together with the means of <unclear>exercising</unclear><lb/>
maleficence in any shape and thereby violating in any<lb/>
respect the <add>mass of</add> duty or say <add>of</add> the obligations which stand attached<lb/>
to the situation, and with which the power belonging to the<lb/>
trust in question are <add>stand</add> charged.</p>
<p>More shortly then</p>
<p>1.  In establishing the connection between <hi rend="underline">service</hi> <add>or say <hi rend="underline">official labour</hi> or <hi rend="underline">duty</hi></add> and reward<lb/>
it will be the care <add>of the legislator</add> to render the interest of the functionary<lb/>
as conformable as possible to duty:  and of curse to avoid<lb/>
rendering the course pointed out by <del>so</del> interest <del><gap/><lb/>
course pointed out by duty</del> other than coincident with the<lb/>
course pointed out by duty:  to take care that <del>it be <gap/></del><lb/>

Instructional – Ratiocinative
Art Art. 58. For the Mode of connection between service and
reward. As to this matter take the following route.

Rule informing the connection between the nature
of the service or say the operation by the performance of which the duty attached
to the official situation in question is performed it will be
among the cases of the Legislator to avoid every mode of connection
by which the inducement or say the motive together with the means of exercising
maleficence in any shape and thereby violating in any
respect the mass of duty or say of the obligations which stand attached
to the situation, and with which the power belonging to the
trust in question are stand charged.

it will be the care of the legislator to render the interest of the functionary
as conformable as possible to duty: and of curse to avoid
