Rich in intellectual opulence Strong in mental requirements High in talent, the order of Advocates, is, if I have been
rightly informed, high in estimationL they are in possession of
that empire which governs by opinion the non-lawyer looks up to the lawyer man of law to know what to think. On all other
subjects, be well it is: but on this subj ground should the same
dominance subjection continue, the sufferings of our Northern brother the Scottish nation are
without remedy: there is nothing to be done for them.

To see into the recesses of the public mind, to measure feel the beatings of the public pulse
To know see what to fear and what if anything to hope
to judge what may be stood up for and what must be given
up, belongs to your Lordships commanding situation station, not to
the in which I write.

Under the impossibility of pronouncing what would be
feasible, I shall proceed to state without further apology,
what on the supposition howsoever ideal ideal as it may be supposing it feasible, presents itself to me as desirable.
