<p>Ordinary Conditions or modes of Relationship may be<lb/>
 
distinguished into <hi rend="underline">natural</hi> and <hi rend="underline">acquired</hi>.  By natural conditions<lb/>
I mean those which necessarily belong to a man by birth: to wit<lb/>
in virtue of either his own birth or that of some other person to<lb/>
whom he stands related.  Such as that of Son, daughter, father<lb/>
mother, brother, sister, and so on through the several modes of<lb/>
relationship constituted by the several degrees of consanguinity.<lb/>
To stand in any of these relations to such or such a person<lb/>
may be the source of various advantages.  These conditions it<lb/>
is plain cannot themselves be forfeited;  a man however may<lb/>
and in some instances has been said to have forfeited them,<lb/>
and may actually be made to forfeit many of the advantages<lb/>
attending them.</p>
<p>Acquired conditions may be distinguished in the<lb/>
first place into <hi rend="underline">political</hi> and <hi rend="underline">religious</hi>;  and political again<lb/>
into <hi rend="underline">domestic</hi> and <hi rend="underline">public</hi>.  Domestic conditions may be distinguished<lb/>
into <hi rend="underline">family</hi> conditions and <hi rend="underline">professional</hi>.  Family conditions are<lb/>
1<hi rend="superscript">st.</hi>  The matrimonial;  or that of being husband or wife to such a person:  3<hi rend="superscript">d.</hi> and 4<hi rend="superscript">th.</hi> that of being Guardian or Ward:  5<hi rend="superscript">th.</hi> and 6<hi rend="superscript">th.</hi> that of being<lb/>
Master or Servant to such a person.

Punishment analysed

Ordinary Conditions or modes of Relationship may be
