Queens Square Place Westmr 13th Novr 1820
Jeremy Bentham London to Jose Joaquim de Mora
Madrid

I have this morning my dear Sir, received through our Parisian
friend your two letters addressed to me together with the copy
of the Finance Minister Mr Canga Arguelles
to you with your translation of it. It is with the
no small addition to the satisfaction occasioned by the reception
given to my offer by the Cortes to see in how great a degree I
am indebted for it to a gentleman who has so such high a
claims to upon my esteem as you have. Having some private
business of importance on my hands for this day or two, I shal
must content myself with a less detailed and considered
answer by this tomorrows post than I might have given
otherwise.

Though the speeches of the Cortes have been manifested
in a manner so flattering and encouraging to me, something
more than I am as yet apprized of seems to
be necessary to the authorizing me to set about the work.
Some direct communication should be have been made to me, either
by the chief, or (as that I suppose is out of
the question) or the Committee of Legislation, or the Minister
of Justice, in consequence of a communication
from the Committee. This will be to the communication
made to you on the subject of my Paper
Money by the Minister of Finance.

I shall hope to hear that the Two A packet by the Two Brothers arrived time enough to be presented to the
Cortes antecedently to its long sleep.
