Cadastrial Parochial Maps

Make one for Battersea
Parish, to serve
as a specimen and
pattern.

The Map being divided
into Squares
each Square distinguished
by a letter, these
Squares will serve as
a permanent system
of nomenclature; and
standard of reference
for conveyances

† Letters not numerous
enough – Arabic
system viz. numbers
Roman or upright
one way of the Map
Station or leaning
the other way.

Make it on the
scale which would
serve best for a common
and universal one.

The scale might
be magnified for
towns – suppose –
here it were to
be 1/12 inch to
a foot, as in
buildings land is
reckoned and valued
per foot.

Examples the
Map of France
on the largest scale –
Quere the Scale

Quere the largest
scale of a County

a Mile.

of London? 2 inches

The largest Parish
is say 6 inches in
diameter. This at
a foot to an inch
would be 6 feet
at 2 feet 12 feet
not too large to hang
up in a Vestry

3 feet to a mile
would be 1/1760 scale.
☞ 1/1760 of a foot
would be a very discernible
quantity on
Paper.

Large Parishes may
be divided for this
purpose into E. W.
N. & South, or into
with exclusion of
one or two of these
divisions according
to the shape of the
Parish, as in the
Yorkshire Ridings.

Utilities

11. Affording a basis
for a plan for
the
ascertaining
fixing and promulgating

rights.

Heritable Lands
for example to be
described with reference
to the Parochial
Maps. The
entries published
in which the claim
is grounded. After
a certain time, no
claim that is not
thus substantiated
to be allowed.
