INTRODUCTION. Division.
Law will admitt of Division from these different Sources. 1. From the nature manner of it's operations. 2dly From the Goods of those Operations

1. From the manner of their operation are
Laws may be divided into Distributive Attributive

Distributive are
Attributive are such as attribute to certain
persons something de novo originally, [of whi from a general
fund, to which neither they had no original pretensions but
by the Laws here spoken of] for which they have
no competitors: And this in contemplation of merit
or demerit by something specific done.

Distributive, are such as
That which they attribute The something attributed, takes the name, according
as it is something painful or pleasurable,
of Punishment or of Reward.

Distributive are such as distribute certain
objects of aversion or desire between competitors
not in without contemplation of merit or demerit.

That which they distribute, according as it is the
object of desire aversion viz: as it is painful unpleasant, or of
desire, viz: pleasurable, may takes the name of
Burthen or Advantage.

These objects may be distinguished into such
as are susceptible of subjectible to a possession: 1 Strict Concrete
Real Actual, & Natural† † viz. Goods whether moveable & Immoveable. 2d Improper Imaginary
Artificial – Abstract & Conventional, viz. Offices and Dignities.

Offices ..... Frangibilis
Dignites ..... Otiose

Offices are of a mixed nature between Burthen
and Advantage, in which sometimes the one
compounded in various properties of certain
supers Duties Burthens to be sustained & advantages
to be received.

Burthens are either 1st Personal or 2d Real.
Personal consist in something to be personally
done by of suffer'd submitted to [on a man's person]
Real consist in something# # Goods moveable or immoveable to be paid or
surrender'd.

Dignities consist in the being placed by virtue of certain ceremonies in such
a situation
that them who therein is the people are accustomed in the habit
of beholding to behold see called by a certain name,
been clothed in a certain garb, occupy a certain
place & so forth† † is in the opinion of his having enjoyed its being for him to do so without surprize, which
it were they to see another not so distinguished
be called by, clothed in, or occupy, they would
behold with surprize a contrary opinion.

Immaterial instruments Intellectual causes of pleasure founded consisting
in on the relation services of persons to the person
proposed [proprieties] are neither 1st Compellable
or 2. Free.
Free are such as result from Affection.

Distributive regulates the accession of the several
objects of aversion or desire upon consequent upon in consequence of events 1. Natural
or involuntary on the part of man
2dly Involuntary Voluntary

2d Voluntary 1st on the part of the parties – Contracts
– Contracts 2d On the part of a 3d person – Facility

To this is referable the Distinctions between Alien
Denizens & Natives – The professors of a Religion
