1. Objector to Mr B. Bentham. Can you by Accounts and Vouchers
prove yourself to have sacrificed all this money as above to the two
establishments together as above?

Answer by Mr Bentham. No: as to a great part of it as otherwise than
by my own Oath as to belief, which, I am
after such little corrections as are not worth making here, I
am ready to take, producing in the Auctioneer's hand the
Account of the valuation and of the Estates sold.

What is certain is – that the Estates are gone and the
Objection-money produced by them spent. Prodigality
being, as according to the observation of Adam Smith, observer the failing of comparatively
but a very small proportion of the whole number of parties
embarked in trade, – not to be presumed, not even in the
instance of an individual indeterminate and unknown: and
whether on the part of the individual in question there can be
any the smallest ground for imputing it, let enquiry be made of any of the
few persons in whose way it has fallen who have had the means of observing the habits
of his frugal and retired life.

2. Objector again to Mr B. Bentham. You Embarked in a commercial
concern, and not able to produce your accounts, or
not having befit any such accounts as are fit to be produced,
With with what prospect of good economy on your part could so vast
an a public establishment as that in question have been committed to your care?
