Now of the columns exhibiting the operations considered
in an abstract point of view – to facilitate the a comparative
review of the several articles for the purpose
of considering in each case the instance of each operation what are the instruments
capable of by which it may be performed to most
advantage. – and 2. what are the classes of hands
capable of being employ'd in it: viz. how far
reform the labour of inferior ability and confined ability hands imperfect, feeble or other classes of imperfect
hands – also women and young children may be capable
of being employ'd in it: hands in the inclusion of
which either strengths or judgment, or skill, or organs
are deficient or inferior. – 3. how far an artificial dead
and stationary forces such as wind, fall of water or
expensive power of steam can be substituted to the living
rays forces of human beings and cattle: for in which view
a material distinction is that between ambulatory works, or such as suppose is require
change of place, and stationary works, or such as may be performed in
without change of place. – 4. how far machinery can
be employ'd with advantage in giving direction to the
force. – 5. how far the labour of inferior-ability, and confined-ability hands
can be employ'd in given tending and giving direction
to the machinery. 6. What operations can only be
performed at particular times – what, at any time all times –
distinction between all-time works and particular-time
works.

In stationary works the great object is to employ dead
forces for the moving powers, and to give direction as much
as may be by machinery, committing the direction of the
machinery itself to inferior-ability and confined-ability
hands. Ambulatory works scarcely admitt of dead forces
for the moving power: the great object is to substitute Cattle
force of cattle to force of human beings, and to employing
machinery for giving direction, and to employ as before
inferior-ability⊞
