Were the established religion of the country, less excellent
than it is, it must would still be to be conformed
to, so long as it is established. But so long as
it is conformed to, so long it will continue to command one
seventh part of our time: at any rate of the time of a class
of pe individuals so perfectly in under command.
Adopting the a favourite idea of one of the most respectable of
our Sovereigns, I hope I may do it without the offence
to that Church of which he is celebrated as the Martyr.
To preclude men from innocent amusements amusing occupations without
ensuring their attendance in devotion is not favouring
devotion but idleness – which in that line of life is but
another name for vice & mischievousness.
