regard to special motions.  He thought they had<lb/>
increased – but could not very satisfactorily account<lb/>
for the extent of that increase.  Not only had no<lb/>
alterations taken place in the rules of the<lb/>
Court but <del><gap/></del> <add>there</add> was no change – even in<lb/>
its doctrines.  Yet there did in fact appear<lb/>
to be more special motions – for which<lb/>
he knew not at the present how to account –<lb/>
but he believed the increase had been<lb/>
greatly exaggerated.  It was true four days<lb/>
were now devoted to them where one<lb/>
day formerly sufficed.  But then it ought<lb/>
to be recollected that at the former period<lb/>
the Chancellor – relieved by the Master<lb/>
of the Rolls – sat from 10 Oclock<del>till</del><lb/>
of the day till 1 – 2 or 3 O'clock next<lb/>
morning. It was no wonder if in<lb/>
a day of that kind almost as much<lb/>
business was done as in four ordinary<lb/>
days. – That there was an <del>re</del> arrear<lb/>
in the Court of Chancery he knew – but<lb/>
he was convinced that it might be<lb/>

the same dispatch as that used by<lb/>

friend appeared to have misunderstood him with
regard to special motions. He thought they had
