1831 March 31 27
J.B. v. G.3.

On that same occasion I received visits
from various parties to the conspiracy: those
whom at this moment my recollection
presents to me are that same pious friend,
Sir Evan Nepean – who at the accommodation
of my old friend Ld. St. Helens was the first
to bring to my house – Mr Pitt & Mr Dundas
to see the machinery & models – Sir Evan
Nepean with whom I had long been in
habit of intimacy & mutual confidence,
Mr Holford, who in quality of Chairman of the
Committee was the Prime instrument in
the business and upon my extinction
was decked in with my spolia opima
– with the prime part of my spoils –
& Ld Redesdale. Being Mr Holford
had paid me visits I believe ore than one;
one at least had for its object & its
occupation the taking a personal
survey of the spot that had been
allotted to the Penitentiary. Mr
Wilberforce & Sir Evan then Mr Nepean
came to me to conduct me in their
custody all the time to the destined place
of my examination.
