<p>In the course of my examination one<lb/>
 
short passage there was which though couched<lb/>
 
in the most decorous terms was felt as striking<lb/>
home and was in truth not without intention<lb/>
of producing that effect:  my examination as<lb/>
taken down in pursuance of the custom so<lb/>
laudably established in that judicatory will<lb/>
exhibit the passage to any eye that chances<lb/>
to glance upon it:  to a person at some distance<lb/>
from him Mr Nepean who as above observed had<lb/>
from first down to that time been my friend tipped<lb/>
the wink as the phrase is;  and the address<lb/>
was followed by that sort of play of countenance<lb/>
that showed the meaning <add>import</add> of it to have been<lb/>
sufficiently understood.</p>
<p>In my way to the place<lb/>
of examination two incidents had occurred both<lb/>
of them pregnant with the same conclusion:<lb/>
just as we had reached Great George Street Mr<lb/>
Nepean being one of my <del>two</del> two companions<lb/>
and Mr Wilberforce I am perfectly certain the<lb/>
other, we met two persons in company with</p>
