Deceitfulness for depredation
being & oppression the propriety
of Judge & Co — Thence
their minds more depraved
than those of the
malefactors they have
to controul.

Mendacity and insincerity Deceitfulness thence untrustworthiness applied to the purpose
constantly of depredation, occasionally of oppression, being thus the
proprium partes mode as the logicians say of the men the man of time — belonging to all
of them and at all times, though not to them alone belonging
to proprium as the logicians say omni et semper sed sole, thus it is that the person minds
occupied in keeping under controul the several classes of the
so called malefactors have been minds more depraved and
vitious than those of any on whom the imputation reproach of
depravity and vitiousness have so profusely and exclusively and profusely been poured fault. By the
murder he proposes may be accomplished any number of times, by the robber his
occupation for any length of time without the utterance of a single
wilful falshood nay even by the King, how naturally so ever
wilful falshood may be the accompaniment of it. But in every [civilized] country but in a more especial manner in England
the great misery of authorized lies and liars the occupation of an J Advocate
can not be carried on without the constant and uninterrupted
practice of vice in those debasing its so conspicuously forms.

seen as little without such habitual and uninterrupted
malifecence can it be by the Judge. Thus as the matter actually stands. But in the nature
of the case, lying and mistrusts are they necessary to the
correct fulfuilment of the duties of a Judge? About Exactly as much as the

of sinister intent so closely have been the fraternity
of lawyers, that by a sy combined system of misrepresentation
they have been engaged the people at large to swallow absurdities, such
the gross as by the grossness vie with those which have had for
their authors so many classes of religionists. On the ground of
no more than one simple act of mendacity supposed to be proved, they have succeeded
in persuading the people to sit contented, while a suit has
been deprived of on the a light that would have for the want of which
a man misery may have been substituted to right by exclusion put
upon a lot of indispensable evidence, which if mendacity was

fit ground for such exclusion,

the exclusion to the testimony

rule would be the strongest
if the ground for applying it to him to whom they have thus applied it is as infinity to one.
