Punishments

Half-roasting

[The punishment of half-roasting shall be performed
in manner following:]

1. A Let a hollow frame of open iron work shall be provided,
made to the shape of a man, in such sort that the manner
is to of a suit or armour, but without joints.
It be inclosing the extremities separately from
the paunch. Let It shall be divided into two equal
shells or parts, connected by hinges on one side.

2. The b upper part being frame being
open'd, let the offender shall be laid in the under
shell his upper extremities separate from his
body; and his lower extremities separate from
each other: upon which let the upper shell shall
be brought over him and fasten'd down.

A fire shall have been prepared and kindled
in a an iron grate of a competent size half the length as long in length half the height
of a middle sized man is full and a quarter of the in height half
as big it's length.

To the head part of the iron frame shall
be adapted a spindle for ending in a pulley, and another to the feet,
insomuch that the whole machine with the criminal inclosed in it may turn round
before the fire in the manner of a spit.

5. In this manner let him shall be placed with his legs from
the downward parallel to the fire.

He shall then be made to turn round at such a
distance from the fire and so long as he can
bear without his either losing the use of his limb
