Parly Reform Sinecures

Now this great Sinecure – what are the circumstances what is it that places
it among those which are the fittest to be remained
of the consequences that resulted from the application of it
some have there has already been occasion to bring to view.

The Grenville Auditorship Act: a second Grenville Act
which the friends of the noble family will not be altogether
so forward to bring to view as the first. The
Of the new Parliament and the new Administration
the very first Act occupied in about the personal concern interest
in taking care of the private interest of the head Minister of it
in enabling him by a special dispensation to make his
escape out of a public principle – time he portions
to be spared either for legislature or for judicature in
bootless wranglers lawyer like wrangles in and
quibbles, the end
of power, trampled
over by quirks –
in quibbles answered by triumphed over by quirks
wrangling and quibbling on both sides – fees to
Clerks in one House – fees to Clerks in the other House –
and the indifference of public men to public principle
coupled with their the acuteness of their lively sensibility to personal and
pecuniary interest, entered upon record.

Thus it is that sooner or later – and throughout
the whole experience of the manufactory – vast as it is –
the weavers of falshood become entangled in their own
note.

These circumstances results were those among the circumstances
that recommended to that Committee the great Sinecure Offices
of the Exchequer as in being probably among the fittest to be retained?
If not, what were they? this is what we one
should be glad to know: this is what they have not told
us: nor are likely to be ready soon to tell us.
