The grave – if it bound the views of some
Is to me no boundary:
To the awful patch dormitory cold damp bed of the darksome tomb
Is the cradle of life to me.

O why should I seek my birth-right here
– A few mean vile fragments of clay
Let me Tho' I grasp them – however secure they appear
They soon will vanish away.

O no! my claims pretensions are higher nobler far
My treasures are lasting as fair;
Ought & as vast Lofty & great as the evening star
Which shines so resplendently there.

I shall throw my mortal vests garments aside
And be clad as angels are;
And on pinions of holiest light shall ride
With the Sun in his golden car.

I shall travel wherever excellence is
Farther than eye can discern
And shall wonder a world so mean as this
Could ever engage my concern.
