To Ld Sidmouth
Smooth and easy it must be confessed, was the
task province of the Honourable Gentleman. What eyes, what
ears more accommodating happily circumstanced than those which he had
to deal with? Eyes which bear had just times enough
to read what he had written for his works, and no more: ears
which just enough to hear for the whispers
dropped into them on each favourable occasion he himself
in his right Honourable intended colleague: eyes
and ears from beginning to end open to the accusations,
eyes and ears from beginning to end shut against
the defence.
