Principles
Principle as elsewhere explained Quere is a term
employed for the purpose of conveying presenting to the mind by means of a single
appellation composed of a noun substantive with a simple
or compound adjective the substance essence of reason or say
a ground of conduct on the part of the ruling powers established
authorities, for which when stated at length, entire
sentences paragraphs one or more, each of them, composed
of propositions one or more, have been found necessary.
Compared with these it is an instrument of aberration,
as short hand writing is in comparison of ordinary writing,
and expression by arithmetical characters in comparison of ordinary
words in ordinary writing or printing, and expression
by algebraic characters in comparison of a mixture
of words and arithmetical characters.
The word principle is borrowed from the Latin principium.
Principium, compounded from the adjective primus first and the
verb capis I take, means that which is first taken – or
say taken to begin with. On this as on other occasions
the words employed for the designation of principle are taken
as and for guides to that those discourses by which they
are respectively followed.
