legitimate causes of excuse for non attendance, causes<lb/>
which do not apply with nearly equal force to <add><unclear>honor</unclear></add> <add>responses</add><lb/>
<del>at <gap/></del> in the epistolary mode, the advantageousness<lb/>
of the epistolary mode backed by the oral as compared<lb/>
with the oral in the first instance will be seen to encrease<lb/>
with the number of other persons with whom it may be<lb/>
necessary for the Judge to hold intercourse, in whatever capacity<lb/>
whether that of <del><gap/></del> proposed Defendants, proposed Co-pursuers,<lb/>
or proposed extraneous witnesses:  especially<lb/>
should <add>by</add> the regard due to the direct ends of justice – to<lb/>
