Bankruptcy &c

If, under the name of business, or any other name
preponderant evil ought to be done in produced in the case and
for the benefit of lawyers, then ought it to be done in the case,
and for the benefit of the classes of Money.

1. Decrees ought to be produced, in the case and for the benefit
of medical men – Physicians and Apothecaries.

2. Limbs ought to be broken, and wounds and bruises inflicted
in the case and for the benefit of Surgeons and Apothecaries.

3. Marshes ought to be made, or left undrained for the
purpose of producing diseases, and thence for the benefit
of Physicians and

4. Wars ought to be made in the case and for the benefit
of Military men, by land and sea.

5. Banking ought to be allowed in the case and for the benefit
of Surgeons in their character of Anatomists.

The evil not only the evil actually produced
by Banking, but even that which would be produced if carried to the same extent, is much greater in the case
of Bankers than in the case of any Lawyers, professional or
official, if the sale and consequent denial of justice were increased
or kept from for the purpose of producing additions
to or preventing substraction from the amount of the business and
– carried on, and then the profit reaped, by lawyers – professional
or official.

By , death is produced: but how is it
as to suffering how is it? Suffering, next to none. From death
to the , setting aside the suffering, the evil is
none: by supposition sensible evil there is none: no more
than from sleep. Death is the lot of all human as well as
all other animals. But as to suffering, no endurable quantity is there
of it by which may not have been : in the case of
natural death, in almost every instance the antecedent
suffering is greater than has place in the case of .
