§. Self-regarding Offences
Only Chiefly for warning is this mention made of
this division class of offences of usefully punishable delinquency as
capable of having place in this case. In the field of legislation
this part is taken possession of with particular complacency
by the hands of hypocrisy, bigotry, self-conceit and tyranny.
Blind and ignorant people! wretchedly imperfect as each of you
in the knowledge is what is most conducive to him our highness,
perfect in one in whom exalted mind wisdom and
benevolence each in the most perfect degree reign in
everlasting harmony.
Two endowments alone are wanting to the despot
