your Friend Mr Davis had obtained, & in ye most agreable
manner, gave us great pleasure, as we are truly sensible of his
merit — which is much more flattering from the Prospects
it opens to him, than the immediate benefit likely
to result from it — I am sensible your regard for him
is such that you cou'd not receive more satisfaction
from any Event how favourable so ever to yourself —
I have no doubt but Lord How, in case he succeeds,
and I think he can't well miscarry considering the
mighty forces he will have under his command,
will in a very few years be at the head of the —
Admiralty — and the attention he has shewn to real
merit, by the Choices he has already made cannot
