The following is a Letter that was
written by from a Capt Newton ( at a
time he was with & under Coll
Bentham in Siberia) to his own
Father at Newcastle in England
and was there obtained from the Latter
by the Revd Mr Thomas Bentham
of Christchurch College Oxon
and by him delivered to Mr
Abbot at Harrogate, in
Yorkshire who transmitted the
same to the Coll's Father in
Sept.r 1790 when he when he was then at
Bath to whom both Capt Newton
& his Father were entire Strangers
except with respect to what
is mentioned in some of the
foregoing Letters of the Colonel's
& Mr Hynam of Petersburg, nor
was there the least probability
of its ever coming to the knowledge hand
of the Coll's Father, on account which is a clause
that it rendered what is
therein mentioned of the Colonel
the more acceptable to his
Father the more acceptable to
him as no manner of Compliment
would be intended by the writer of that Letter
