Dark night her sceptre sways o'er plains & hills
O'er the vast forest & the foaming seas; Thy wondrous energy all nature filled
And leads our thoughts & leads our hopes to Thee
While millions voices thought How great is God! a million tongues repeat
How great is God – re-echoed And million tongues echo – God is how great.

But now again the day-star bursts the gloom
Scattering its sunshine o'er the opening sky
They eyes – that pierces even thro' the abyss – the tomb –
Has spaced the clouds – has bid the vapors fly.
Thy smiles of light descending from above
Bathed all the universe with joy & love
