The use [office] this publication I have solicited of the Act is to furnish [exhibit
a number of examples, ready to cite
is finished to satisfaction upon occasion & the rules & general observations
[& terms of nomenclature] that are introduced,
are introduced only to render make them
examples [intelligible, & to shew to what use
they will be applied were chosen] and the purpose for
which they are have been chosen understood.

Till a man can make sure that such &
such a part only belong[s] to him, he is
saddled with the whole.

Now the only way to make sure of this, if
it can be done then, is to read it through.
Of what ever bulk that part of the Law is to which
concerns a many the whole Law is to him is but
as it were of a bulk, & nothing more [no greater]
As if an act consist of 20 pages an an equal
share of which concerns ten different persons:
in point of utility to every one it is 20 pages: but in
point of burthen to each of them it is but 2.

A Topic Point that runs through the whole Law as in a
manner it were cannot be treated called upon the occasion
of a single title without signal manifest disadvantage
exposed to a different decision, according as it falls
into the hands of the different decisions that form
themselves in such a numerous & difficult
assembly distributes itself of persons respectively attached to
different branches of the System, it is by this
means exposed to perpetual vacillation, & the
Law incurs the reproach of making the same
thing right & wrong at the same time. under the same circumstances.

It is of importance therefore on account of
consistency, independently that of of conciseness brevity
that the same matter, [by being considered &
determined once for all] [receive throughout
the same decision] be settled throughout in the
same manner way.

Those who are concerned as being by the parts: & as having the superintendence of the whole.

When once the mold mould is finished to satisfaction is properly prepared
the casting of the several is a
matter of care & expedition:

He who works after such a plan has been
traced out to him

Nor the same advantage in point of ease
of celerity & of accuracy of execution as
he who produces casts a medal has by casting over him who from the mould
is to execute it originally by the graver chisel

If my plan method of [Legislative] composition be
a proper good be worth having one, there cannot be a more effectual
way of teaching it.

It is like those examples which are to be met
with in certain Grammars, where a passage
of some author writer in the language to be taught is

All the difference is, that then the disorder
is to be made created produced, then it resists already to one's hands.
