<p>The Pacha frequently holds a Divan.  Members, 50<lb/>
Each delivery his opinion on the subject of consideration.<lb/>
All of them of course named by the Pacha <unclear>ulen</unclear>.<lb/>
No other persons are present.  Language used the Turkish.</p>
<p>The land is the whole of it the property of the<lb/>
Pacha.  Leases, none.  Occupiers all Tenants at will, obliged<lb/> 
to sell the whole produce to the Pacha at his own<lb/>
price.</p>
<p>Name of his Grandson <add>and expected successor</add> – only <add>legitimate</add> son of his only legitimate<lb/>
son (<gap/> Pacha) decesed.  Achmed Pacha.  Abbas Pacha</p>
<p>He has two sons by concubines – <add>one 4 1/2 years, one 2 years</add> <gap/> Pacha about<lb/>

afflictive, namely decapitation by a single stroke.</p>

<p>Newspapers and other periodicals – English as well as French<lb/>
find their way to Cairo.  Query  1 whether regularly.  2 largely what<lb/>
channels?  3. In what <unclear>aim</unclear> from <unclear>publication</unclear>.  4. What are the papers<lb/>
recollected by G?  G has seen Times, Chronicle, Globe, Courier New Times, &amp;<lb/>
Public Ledger – G supplied the Pacha with the Examiner.  G went every night to the Palace &amp; when Newspapers arrived he was desired to read &amp; report upon them.</p>
<p>Religion.  The Pacha is a ""perfect "Utilitarian".  He believes not Mahomet.  He never attends the Mosques.  The number of Priests is great that are paid by voluntary contributions.</p>
