Critchoff, One of them a Mr. Madwinoff, Captain
in the Navy, married to an English Lady at Leghorn
Daughter I beleive of the Consul there; his Lady was
with him as well as Two of his Sisters; They were
going to Cherson where He is lately made President
of the Admiralty Board there; He wants me much
to be One of his Colleagues; but tho' the Prince
should wish it also, I do not find myself
much disposed for it. as however my Batallion
is destined next Summer for either that place
or the Crimea, I shall no doubt go with it; what
business I shall have there I know not as yet, the
spending a short time towards the Borders of the Black
Sea would forward my Critchoff Undertakings; but
I doubt finding any thing which will compensate
for a constant absence from thence.
Be that as it may, I hope, Sir, that it will give
you some pleasure when I assure you, that my
Situation, upon the whole, is agreable, & promises
to be advantageous in point of Profit.
My desire however of making you a visit
is so great that I can scarcely refrain from
taking Steps to bring it about even next Summer.
