Queen Square Place Westminster —
Saturday June 7th. 1817

Mr Bentham's requests respecting such of his works and papers as
Mr Adams is obliging enough to take charge of for the American United
States —

I. Articles to be forwarded, in the first instance to each of the twenty United
States: being addressed to the respective Governors—
1. Mr. Bentham's Circulars of Codification, each of them signed by him.
2. Do. on Public Instruction, do.
3. A Copy of the Pamphlet intutuled Papers relative to the Codification and
Public Instruction &c
, / in which the above Circulars are comprized/.
4. A Copy of Chrestomathia Part I & II.
5. A Copy of the Whole Sheet Chrestomathic Table.
6. A Copy of the Plan of Parliamentary Reform. N.B. The use of this article is
merely to shew the state of his affections: the subject of it could not, any where in the U. S., come
within the field of any Code which he could profess to draw.

Persons to each of whom it is Mr. B's wish that a copy of each of the above
six articles be presented in his name.

1. President of the United States
2. Vice President of do. /if Mr. A thinks fit/.
3. Secretary of the Treasury; /if Mr. A. thinks fit/
4. Professor Cooper of Philadelphia.

As to any articles that may be remaining, Mr. B., begs of Mr. A., to
make what disposal of them he thinks best.

II. Articles desired to be eventually forwarded to the Governors of the several
States of the Union, for the use of the respective Assemblies: but not till either
acceptance or rejection have been given to Mr B's offer by the several Representative
Assemblies: acceptance being signified by an assurance, that when received
the proffered work will be taken for the subject of public deliberation:
but, in the mean time, it would be a favour done him, if any such Govenor
would send him an acknowledgement of the receipt of the offer &c — accompanied
with an intimation of what he has done or proposes to do in relation
to it —
