Alegomorphics
Ch. or § Alegomorphics facilitated

3 2

3.
Combinations of
equivalences may be
seen in 1, a chain of
links — 2. rounds of a
ladder — 3. flight of steps, &c

This In Hence combination of equivalences may be considered regarded
as represented by any one of several emblems: it may be considered
as a chain consisting of many links rising one above
another; as a ladder consisting of many rounds rising
one above another; as a flight of steps consisting of many
steps rising one above another: as a scale of many degrees
rising one above another. At each step, the expression
— the sign aggregate of signs — the bundle of words employed
in planting impressing the idea in question into the mind experiences is subjected to
an ulterior degree of abbreviation or say condensation.

4.
So in enumeration — 1 for one.

Then when we say in the case when the operation
employed is that which is called addition numeration —
to the word one is substituted the sign 1: and so on
through the numeration table

5.
In addition — for two &
two , 4.

In the case where the operation employed is what that which is called
addition: to the three words two and two is substituted the single word four, and to the two figures 2
and 2 the single figure 4

6.
In multiplication — for
two & two & two & two, 8.

In the case where the operation employed is that
which is called multiplication, to the words two and
two and two and two [or say to the word two twice repeated] is
substituted the single word eight: to the eight figures
1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 and the eig four figures 2, 2, 2, 2 is substituted
the single figure 8: and so on through the multiplication
table
