§. 1. Instruments of evil – what.
Art. 1. Scarcely does that instrument of evil exist
to which it may not happen to be also an instrument of
good. Scarcely does that instrument of good exist to which
it may not happen to be an instrument of evil. Thus in
politics, so in medicine. Not one instrument of good, of
forch for example, by which taken in too great excess disease may not
be productive under productive of disorder: scarcely perhaps is
there a prison, which one day or other means may not be
found of converting into a remedy for some disease.
But some instruments there are which are alike capable
of being employed as instruments of evil good, as of being
employed as instruments of good evil: others there are which
are in general are not capable applicable of being applied otherwise to any other than an exact purpose
