Spanish America — Collectanea respecting

Times 29 Dec. 1808.

Cadiz Novr 22. on the
18th arrived here a
merchant vessel and a
gallion of war, both of
them from Vera Cruz
& Havannah. The gallion
has been sent with
dispatches & donations
to the amount of
100,000 Dollars. She has
also on board 20000
dollars to defray
& repairs with the intention
of her immediately returning
with such dispatches
& commands
as the supreme Central
Junta shall be pleased to
send to America. By
these two vessels we have
received the most flattering
accounts from the Havannah,
V. Cruz, Mexico &
all the other provinces
of that Kingdom. In all
parts the inhabitants
are animated with the
same enthusiasm &
loyalty, & offer donations
in proof of their attachment
to Ferdinand, &
their hatred to Napoleon.
All are de resolved to
to & sacrifice every
individual of whatever
rank, who shall deviate
in the smallest degree from
the discharge of his sacred
duties.

Times 2d Jan. 1809

Plymouth Decr 31
Accounts had been
received at Jamaica
from Spanish America
stating that two parties
there but that
of Ferdinand prevails.

Times 11 Jan. 1809

Contains Proclamn
announcing deposition of
Yturrigay +

The ci-devant Vice
Roy of Mexico accepted
a badge of honor from Becon.
& decidedly proved himself
a partizan of the French
was deposed by the people &
with difficulty saved his life.
He was sent home prisoner
to Cadiz in the Melpomene.
The Melpomene made a
passage of 35 days from
Vera Cruz & had on board
2,150,000 dollars. The Diamond
wch previously arrived from
Colony, brought 2,200,000
dollars 8,000,000
daily in a
Ship of War.

+ D Pedro Garibay
V.Roy pro temp.

The Archbishop at the
head of the assembly by
wch the Yturrigary was
deposed

Times 17 Jan. 1809.

At the beginning of
Novr a Spanish Frigate
arrived in Rio de la
Plata with new Gov
for Montes Video and
Buenos Ayres ... these
Persons were commissioned
either by the Junta of
Seville or the supreme
Junta

Times 18 Jany 1809.

Serious apprehensions
are entertained of the
safety of Mr Murphy
of the House of Gordon and
Murphy the gentleman
who made such patriotic
exertions in the Spanish
cause. He left Madrid
on the 3d of Decr & has not
been heard of since.

Times 16 Feb.1809.

As the Algesiros was
leaving the harbour
of Cadiz on the 2 instant
the St Justa, a Spanish
man of war from
Vera Cruz, was entering
it, having on board
nine millions of dollars
for the use of the Patriots.

At Vera Cruz it
appears British vessels
have been received as
as belonging to an allied
power; but at the same
time, the preference avowed
for Great Britain, in
consequence of her political
relations to Spain,
has not led to those
commercial privileges
which have been expected,
and even believed to
be already granted.

The Port is shut
against all other foreign
vessels, and all exclusive
grants of privileges conferred
by the former
administrators have
ceased.

Times 20 Feb. 1809

On the 1st of Feb the Justa
arrived at Cadiz her
voyage from Vera Cruz
was made in 56 days
