To this argument (for I have been better taught than to
attempt to offer think of offering any thing that shall risk the hurting, injuring
prejudicing or violating the feelings of any great character in
his situation high situation, or of drawing into question his aptitude fitness in any respect for such his situation
I have but too to but two objections –

One is that if this argument satisfactory and convincing
as it must can not but be to all those whose go
merit or good fortune has afforded them the felicity of
that convivial and confidential intercourse without
the benefit of which the a well-grounded conviction of
it is impossible in the nature of things that any
such purity how real soever should manifest itself and impress
on any external mind the persuasion of its
existence, satisfactory as it can not but thus be to that
the exalted and enviable circle – if this argument
the persuasive force as it can not but be
that circle, is unfortunately unhappily by the very answer
of the case confined within that circle: in
so much that out of that circle, and in a word on
the part minds of all those that whole crowd of persons to whom in relation to that Right Honorable and incomparable person nothing more
is known than that he is a man and that the
situation in which he is placed is that situation,
that situation so universally acknowledged to be in
so high a degree to human virtue, an
argument to this effect is fortunately or unfortunately
more apt to produce scorn than evidence: and
in that situation the inhabitants of that small and silent
circle excepted all the vast majority of the people
among the it of when the population of
is composed all those in whose
way it can fall to judge.
